INTERVIEW
with Trevor Hardy Director of PUSHKIN & WINNER of the ANIMATION Category at MOFILM FESTIVAL

We speak with Trevor Hardy after he´s won the MOFILM Award 09 in the Animation category with PUSHKIN and his trip from Barcelona.

How did you start doing Stop Frame Animation?

Trevor: I started stop frame animation about 13 years ago. I had just been given the sack from my tyre fitting job and that evening I saw Walllace and Gromit on TV. I looked into colleges that did animation and spent the next 8 years doing various animation courses.

How do you develop the particular style of your characters, such as Pushkin, Gran, Twicher, etc?

Trevor: I tend to think in my mind the sort of character that would best fit the story I'm telling. I think about the style of the story and then think what kind of character may best suit it.

Stop Frame Animation requires a lot of detail and hard work, what is the most gratifying side of your work?

Trevor: I love every stage of stop frame. When I think of a story I really enjoy the pre-production stage. Developing the story, thinking of the characters etc. But every stage is brilliant, once you start making the puppets and sets etc, the whole thing starts to come
together, then when you start to animate it and edit it with all the sound effects it's just so exciting.

What are you working on at present?

Trevor: I'm doing a whole bunch of stuff for Nickelodeon, I have just completed a series of 1 minute stop frame films called, 'Watermill Farm' for Nick Jnr and they want more of them plus other things so I'm very busy at the moment.

What kind of projects do you see yourself doing next?

Trevor: That's the exciting thing about what I do. You never know what's around the corner. I get loads of phone calls from people that want stuff but unfortunately a lot of the time you have to sieve out the time wasters and concentrate on the stuff you are being paid to do. I have a little project with Renderyard that hopefully should be good and I have loads of ideas for my own stuff so Fool Hardy Films looks to be busy for the coming year!

Watch out for 'Watermill Farm' by Trevor Hardy.
